I'm a big fan of Jill's, I listen to her podcast all the time and she was one of my inspirations for changing careers to become a Financial Advisor. So I was really excited to get her book. It was a quick, relatively easy read, that made what can be a pretty dry subject entertaining. Her writing style reminds me of sitting down with that friend who is going to tell you the truth even if it isn't what you want to hear, and isn't going to let you get away with your B.S. We all need a friend like that! Her advice is sound, leaning towards conservative, and she gives lots of great real-world examples on why you should prepare for life's unexpected challenges. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I think it may have helped me embrace portfolio rebalancing.

Everyone has done dumb things with their money, some dumber than others. Here, the author addresses her list of common mistakes and included stories with the financial impact of those mistakes, making what could be a very dry book more interesting. A lot of this is common sense, but as we all know, common sense isn't always so common. I always appreciate the no-nonsense, smart advice that Jill brings to personal finance. Almost everyone will find something here that will help them make smarter decisions about money. Especially appreciated is Jill's practical approach to spending on higher education. Plus, a great does of humor and storytelling makes this a useful and delightful read.

That's my plan at least. This book is super easy to read and draws a lot of parallels to Suze Orman's 9 Steps to Financial Freedom in terms of the key lessons. The main difference is that Jill uses more anecdotes to show how it can all go wrong and offers tips for how to make sure you don't make these dumb mistakes.

Initially I didn’t know for whom this book was written. The answer is EVERYONE. From the person who doesn’t have money to “invest” to the high net worth individual who has a sophisticated money manager, Schlesinger’s book is for all. She not only tells you what you’re doing wrong and how to fix it, she tells you WHY. You won’t change your behavior if you don’t change your thinking --Schlesinger guides you through the process of understanding your financial psychology. It’s an incredibly valuable book that has universal application.The best part though is that Schlesinger is hilarious. And oh so honest.

For someone like me, nearing retirement it is a valuable resource if only to serve as a check on the decisions my wife and I have made so far. There is a wealth of great advice delivered in an easy and fun to read style. Some of the mistakes we’ve already made can’t be undone but many of our choices can still be modified to greater advantage. I highly recommend this useful financial guide.

Jill delivers great advice in a great read! I am making this a mandatory book to read for my son. It isn't dumb to make financial mistakes but it is dumb not to be aware of what they are. Thanks for clearing up so many areas I've struggled with for years.

This is a level 2 reader for kids that read with help. You will find words like 'booyakasha'. Funny that since my son watches the show he knew to correct my pronunciation on that word. The story is simple and interesting. We have read the other level 2 TMNT readers (Pizza Party! (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) (Step into Reading) and Too Much Ooze! (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) (Step into Reading)), so my son read this with help for the longer words. When he is more familiar with the story he'll be able to practice reading by himself. Which is why I like these - great pictures, interesting story: kids will practice their words and reading for fun. The book is 24 pages long. The stickers at the end are part of the fun.This story is not really violent or scary. At least my son didn't think so - he is 5. There are pictures of an ice dragon, a lizard-like alien and a cute friendly robot. There's some fighting and a nice happy ending.

We love the ninja turtles and this is a great book. My son loves the stickers too!

My students liked it, but what's not to like about TMNT. It was a good book to read together with my beginning readers.

cute story but in general these level 2 reading books have few words in them, just a short sentence per page.

Born and raised in New York City, Jane Yolen now lives in Hatfield, Massachusetts. She attended Smith College and received her master's degree in education from the University of Massachusetts. The distinguished author of more than 170 books, Jane Yolen is a person of many talents. When she is not writing, Yolen composes songs, is a professional storyteller on the stage, and is the busy wife of a university professor, the mother of three grown children, and a grandmother.Active in several organizations, Yolen has been on the Board of Directors of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, was president of the Science Fiction Writers of America from 1986 to 1988, is on the editorial board of several magazines, and was a founding member of the Western New England Storytellers Guild, the Western Massachusetts Illustrators Guild, and the Bay State Writers Guild. This should be on every YA reading list. The way in which Yolen communicates the atrocities of WWII, the way she exquisitely works in how resistance was living to tell the tale is just marvellous. It evokes a deep feeling of empathy in the reader that is so crucial to develop in young adults, while being a short and easily digested story. There are not enough stars for this book.

This historical fiction tells the story of a young disinterested Jewish girl, Hannah, who is tired of hearing her Grandfather's personal stories of the Holocaust. During the celebration of the Seder, without any warning she finds herself living in the past with family in Poland. The present and the past blur - she has knowledge that no one is willing to believe. As a result she and others are put in a concentration camp where Hannah learns first hand of what her Grandfather had been speaking for so long. The young girl returns to the present Seder dinner just as abruptly as she had left, but now with a greater appreciation of her Jewish heritage and religion, and with an understanding of the significance of the numbers tattooed on the arms of her older relatives. This is well written, with an unusual telling of the Holocaust. It is not so graphic as other books covering this subject, so is appropriate for children as young as 11 or 12; but because of the subject matter, it is important to engage them in conversation and discuss the events of the Holocaust. This is a book to be shared with our younger generation - it is important not only for the Jewish people to remember this time in their history, but also for the rest of us to remember and learn.

This is a very good book. The author takes us on a journey of remembrance. Has Hannah opens the door to let Elijah in during her families Cedar celebration, she is transported on the astounding yet horrifying journey of her ancesters as they become prisoners in a German camp during WWII. She will never forget the price her ancestors paid for their Jewish heritage at that time in history. I recommend this book to eveyone.

I have read at least 7 Holocaust survivor stories to my 10 and 12-year-old children over the course of the last 2 years. I was hesitant to read this book because it is fiction, but decided to go ahead and give it a try since it had such positive reviews. This book starts off slowly and I had to stop and explain the content every 2-3 pages. The author seems to assume that you have attended a Seder (I actually have- 3 times now) and have a working knowledge of the Yiddish language (I do not). Many times the Yiddish word is used to describe something or someone, with no explanation or solid context cues to figure the word out (thank you Google).The book is very slow for the first 50-60 pages, but does get interesting and exciting when the Nazi army bursts onto the scene. The experiences that the main character experiences at the concentration camp are similar to actual occurrences I've already read in nonfiction books.At the conclusion of the book I was left to ponder, why did I read an historical fiction account of the Holocaust when there are so many biographical accounts that are much more powerfully told?

The book is just incredible. It give a new perspective that we might not have considered. Though this book is amazing it is this way - now ill tell without sharing too much - because in the book it shows a hint of reality without being real and though there furiously sad parts it adds to the feel of what exactly the Jews had gone through when dealing with this insanity. I definitely recommend this to all and I believe that children, Christian - much like myself - would enjoy this book and even parents and teachers. So I definitely think it deserves a first class 5 star rating.

My daughter is reading this book in school and because she is dyslexic, I have started getting my own copy of her required reading so that I can help her if she needs it. This book was so good. It did a great job of telling a story of what it was probably like in a concentration camp. Being that it is written from a 12-year-old's perspective, the situations were very descriptive. It was hard to read the names and remember who belonged to what family, but other than that, it is a very educational and captivating read.

I read this book because it was a school assignment for my sixth grade grandson, and he wanted me to read so we could talk about it. Having said that, I enjoyed the way the author presented the story of Hannah/Chaya. Compelling, easy to read with an incredibly powerful impact. I was overcome with sadness. I am sure it must have been hard for him to process fully as how could anyone not living through that time possibly conceive of what happened to those people affected by Nazi Germany. Very well done under those sad circumstances.

I read this book after watching the movie, to see what the contrast would be.l actually think the movie follows the book pretty closely.l would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read about the Holocaust from the experience of what the camps were like from survivors experiences.

About the Author

Mitchell Zuckoff is the Sumner M. Redstone Professor of Narrative Studies at Boston University. He covered 9/11 for the Boston Globe, and wrote the lead news story on the day of the attacks. Zuckoff is the author of seven previous nonfiction books, including the #1 New York Times bestseller “13 Hours,” which became the basis of the Paramount Pictures movie of the same name. As a member of the Boston Globe Spotlight Team, he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in investigative reporting and the winner of numerous national awards. He lives outside Boston with his family.

I have not listened to this audio because I bought it as a gift for someone else. That being said, please be advised that if you are buying this as a gift for someone please be advised that the big yellow $19.99 price on the front is NOT A STICKER. It is actually printed on the cover, cannot be removed or covered up. For some people this may not matter but when I am giving someone a gift I prefer NOT to have the price printed on the gift.

This is an exciting, well reported, detailed story of men facing incredible odds. It held my interest from beginning to end. At times it's a tad confusing as the real life story jumps back and forth between time frames, but the overall feeling is almost as if one were actually there.

GOOD STORY.

Thrilling

This is a riveting story of survival in the worst conditions imaginable. A story of sacrifice by hero's. This story is a great "read". We highly recommend this book. It will causeyou to hold your breath, cry and cheer.

Enjoyable read of a true story. I am looking from in part two and the full recovery and what might be found.

I would highly recommend this one. Wonderful how the author combined history with present day.Very engaging!

Demonstrates how heroic American soldiers are to the needs their fellow soldiers even unto death.
