About the Author
Donald Voet received a Ph.D. in chemistry from Harvard University and did postdoctoral research in the Biology Department at MIT. Don took up a faculty position in the department of chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, upon completing his postdoctoral work. He has been a visiting scholar at Oxford University, the University of California San Diego, and the Weismann Institute of Science in Israel. Judith Voet received her Ph.D. from Brandeis University and did postdoctoral research at the University of Pennsylvania, Haverford College and the Fox Chase Cancer Center. She taught at the University of Delaware before moving to Swarthmore College. Together with Don Voet, she is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education.

While I’m sure the hardcopy textbook would be quite informative, the digital textbook will be of little use in learning Biochemistry. The tables do not display correctly in the digital edition, nor do formulas and chemistry notations needed to understand the concepts. I would highly suggest purchasing a physical book for this edition or selecting a different digital text for this subject matter. I would return it if I could, but that doesn’t seem possible with the Kindle Edition.
This book is written extremely well, did a better job at explaining than my teacher when he would leave the class confused. All the answers are in the book with good explaining and shows the math steps worked out so no need for solution manual. The only problems I had using it was understand the graphs around chapter 10 when solving for km but you can find better explanation on youtube. Chapters 1-14 had the same problems at the end of each chapter in edition 4 however they are number differently so you can check with your class mate which ones you need to do.I'm not too sure how much this book is like edition 4 in the later chapters after chapter 14 but I will update my review after my Advance Biochemistry goes further in the book. This book is lot cheaper to buy than the current edition so I would recommend this instead biochemistry 1 and avoid renting your book twice for two semesters.Originally my teacher told me this book would not work for biochemistry at UMSL but it was word for word in text.
So I received this book for my kindle app. If it wasn't for this book I would have definitely failed biochem! It was great, it offered clear definition and description accompanied with good images. I appreciated the ebook aspect of it because I didn't have to carry around a huge textbook around with me to class or library. Also really helpful because it allowed me to make flash cards right there and highlight. Definitely a great price as well. Was less than 1/4 of the price that my university offered the exact same textbook.
I wish it explained the concepts a little better and helped with the different ways to do the problems.
Must have for college biochemistry. I would recommend buying a supplemental problem set book to help you apply the knowledge. I was able to sell mine back to make up for the price.
This was a great book and probably one of the most straight forward science based textbooks I've ever read. I received an A in Biochem 1 & 2 and studied mostly from the textbook, just going over the power points from lecture once or twice before exams.
Good explanations and diagrams.
As far as content, this book wasn't too bad. However, I feel that the Lehninger Biochemistry text is an easier read, and I also believe it does a better job of explaining the interactions between molecules, proteins, etc. For that reason I switched to that text mid-way through Biochemistry I. On the plus side, this particular textbook has a little more content in the area of bioenergetics, but other than that, I'd stick with Lehninger. The main problem I had with this binder version is that the pages tear very easily. The paper is extremely flimsy, and because of this I tore multiple pages in this binder version. If you're going to buy this edition, I strongly recommend you do not buy the binder version - especially if you plan on selling it later.
