I love the narrative voice of this series. Bea is so down-to-earth and her predicaments are fun to vicariously experience, and book 3 is no exception. Just the right touch of historical setting without it being a treatise on Regency life. I'm really hoping the author will write more in the series!
I read all 3 books and enjoyed each one. Writing was superb with witty dialogue that made me laughed out loud. Feisty intelligent h matched perfectly with pedantic but to die for duke. I wished we could have gotten a glimpse inside the duke’s head to know what he was thinking and feeling and the ending was a little abrupt and anticlimactic in regards to the h & H’s relationship. The books were not long and each one repeated what had happened in previous books so I did feel the total cost was pricey and preferred the story was contained in one book.
Love this author's ability to keep you guessing, think you have it, then throw a surprising curve ball. As enjoyable as the first two of this series. I do think, however, that too much time is spent catching the reader up on the first two books. If the reader has already read them it is redundant.
An entertaining third in the series. More disguises are donned as the detective duo work together and separately to solve a murder. As before, society’s rules and a female detective and her duke sidekick are at odds.
This is a wonderful series with a heroine you will be rooting for, and a writer you will truly enjoy! Thoroughly enjoyed the surprises and twists, and the humor. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys seeing the underdog win!

For everyone who enjoys period romance! This is one you won’t be able to put down. I’ve not slept in two days because I cannot put it down.
The author has a lively sense of humour, a wonderful sense for farce, a kindly, though witty eye for human foibles, and expreses all of this in her well-written series of detective/romance featuring Beatrice & a duke. From the autres experience of encountering a corpse - or two - Beatrice slowly emerges from the role & self-effacing behaviours adopted to assure that her aunt & uncle would keep her, after she was orphaned when her parents died in a boating accident. When we meet her, she's about 26, and self-effacement has been reinforced by failure to "take" on the marriage mart. Encountering murder victims, she discovers she is intelligent & logical, has a talent for putting together the pieces of the "criminal" puzzle & can be "fired" by the interest in seeing justice done - a "mission" far more interesting & compelling than just helping around the house. The murder in the first book also has her crossing paths with the duke, who comes to figure in her further investigations through the series. All of this happens in a quite natural & believable way - a real tribute to the author's skill. Another tribute is the wonderfully drawn Aunt Vera, a sort of "Mrs. Bumble" in the lowers echelons of the ton; her desire to avoid any reference to anything unpleasant, and to flatter anyone of rank leads to some wonderful dialogues & conversations. The mysteries aren't bad, either. Nicely drawn. Though the process in solving them may have a few facile moments of deduction, it's still good work. Highly enjoyable. Well done! As the third left room for a fourth, with the hint that Lady Abercrombie may have a murder case for Bea to investigate...well, I'm hoping for another book in the series.
