Every single time Lori Foster releases a book, she brings you there! The 3rd book of the series focuses on Stack "The Wolf" Hannigan who we have met in the previous 2 books and prequel novella. Until this book, he played a solid supportive role in the series, but this time, it is his turn to shine ... fall ... and does he ever!Stack is the typical alpha MMA fighter: strong, sexy, smart, honorable, and career focused to the point that commitment is not an option. He is a talented fighter who takes a big role in the MMA gym run by the hero of the first book. He is a man who loves life and enjoys company of beautiful women. He is part of the group of fighter friends that canvasses the neighborhood to help keep crime down. All around, a great guy.As the saying goes, behind every good man is a great woman. In Stack's case, this woman is Vanity Baker. Vanity was introduced in book 1 of the series as the heroine's best friend. She is beautiful, wealthy, independent, kind, generous and strong. She has a genuine personality that shows in her actions and interactions in the bookThere is a preestablished relationship between her, the secondary characters of the book and the hero. However, the current relationship was not what she wanted so managed to entice Stack at the end of the previous book with a proposition that guaranteed to catch his attention. The story of the book is very solid. The development of both Stack and Vanity as individuals is strong and add to that their developing relationship, it makes it so much better. Their personalities offer their relationship the great mix of humor, heat (oh my!), sarcasm and a deeper friendship. Their chemistry is combustible! The conflict in the book is also realistic. The "Villians" in the story are not a surprise since the set up is straightforward, however, this is not a mystery, it makes sense. It is a perfect blend of "real news", relationship issues, honesty and miscommunication. The conflict from Stack's family is a good foil to add hiccups to the developing relationship. Will they drive a wedge between them? Can she accept him as he is? Can he put aside his preconceived notions and be with her on a permanent basis? Can loyalty tested survive?I laughed. I teared up. I wanted to smack them both at various times in the head ... hard ... several times ... but in the end, what an awesome book! I have reread the books several times and find myself loving it as much as I originally did!I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

So what do you get when you cross a fiercely independent take charge woman who knows exactly what she wants with a protective Alpha male who is used to being in control? You get a wildly entertaining, very hot romance, a lot of mystery and even a few miscues and misunderstandings. But most of all you get some really Tough Love.Lori Foster has done it again with her newest installment in the Ultimate series. Vanity is a natural caretaker who is used to taking care of herself and others and wants very much to be taking care of Stack. He is a hot, popular, talented fighter with a reputation that would make any girl blush, but with a protective streak that can’t be denied. Their romance begins with a bit of an indecent proposal but it is clear from the start that their chemistry is off the charts. The only unclear thing is how can that chemistry be turned into love, especially when everything seems to be getting in their way including their stubborn personalities, and Stack’s very challenging family members. Ultimately, love prevails, but the journey getting there is hot, fun, touching, endearing, sexy, and…did I mention HOT!!Tough Love is hard to put down once you start it and it includes lots of old friends from the other books in the Ultimate series, and even a few shout outs from a few familiar faces from some of Lori’s previous series. All of the fighters are sexy, endearing, funny, protective and they always have each others’ backs.I highly recommend putting Tough Love on your summer reading list as your number one beach vacation read. (If you’re not going to the beach, read it anyway and imagine you are on vacation.) You won’t be disappointed!!I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Vanity is in love with Stack, one of the MMA fighters, but he hadn’t even noticed her until she propositioned him; a night of sex in exchange for being her date at Cannon & Yvette’s wedding. She feels that the only way to reel him in is to not let him know she loves him and let Stack grow to understand how good they’d be together. But he hates lies and she fears he’ll have an issue with this one. It’s really easy to like Vanity; she’s independent, compassionate and capable. And while both great looking and rich, neither one holds much importance to her. It’s easy to get in her head and feel her emotions. Many of the characters met in prior books are on hand and that’s one of the things I like so much about these books; it feels like catching up with friends. Love Stack’s family and I enjoyed disliking his brother-in-law.Each of these stories has some kind of big threat in them, but for some reason the threat didn’t seem nearly as big as others, perhaps because the threat was against Stack and not Vanity. The sex is written well, but for me there’s just too much of it with each scene going on and on. I’d have enjoyed it more if there was only a couple of detailed scenes and the rest left to the imagination. The book also contains the novella, Back to Buckhorn.

From the Publisher

Confessions of a God Seeker: A Journey to Higher Consciousness ("ONE" Publishing, Inc) written by Ford Johnson, former member and major international speaker for Eckankar for more than thirty years, exposes an insidious pattern of spiritual betrayal, fraud, fabrication and plagiarism that is endemic in the teaching. A worldwide religion, based in Chanhassen, Minnesota, Eckankar was founded by Paul Twitchell in 1965. In it’s almost forty years, Eckankar has impacted hundreds of thousands of seekers through its books, discourses, classes and seminars. Explaining why he wrote the book, Johnson said: "Over a period of thirty years, I spoke before thousands of newcomers and Eckists both in the U. S. and abroad. I felt responsible for unwittingly leading many seekers to this path, which, unknown to me at the time, was based on a lie, even though it contained many truths. Once discovered, I felt compelled to inform others of the extent of the prevarication and cover-up. What they do with the information is up to them, but at least they will know." Johnson, a Graduate of Harvard Law School and President of a Maryland based Corporation specializing in educational and residential services for youth, uncovered this information during a period of intense study and research. Explaining how he came to make these discoveries, Johnson said: "More than a year ago, I was asked to deliver a journal of inner spiritual experiences, written by an Eckist from England, to the spiritual leader of Eckankar, Sri Harold Klemp. This journal described inner experiences that were comparable to those described in the Bible and other holy books. Many sublime truths were communicated to this seeker, including warnings about deception, a fraudulent history, and other insidious doctrines that had infected Eckankar. Klemp was also challenged in the Journal to remove the lies and make drastic changes in the teaching. Rejecting these inner experiences with himself and other Eck Masters, Klemp simply declared them a reflection of the negative and imposed sanctions on the Journal’s author and others who helped transmit the Journal to him. This response raised serious questions in my mind about the veracity of Eckankar as a teaching." Johnson initiated a search for the truth behind Eckankar, which resulted in his discovery that Paul Twitchell "was one of the most accomplished plagiarists of the twentieth century with literally hundreds of paragraphs lifted wholesale from the works of other writers." Beyond this, Twitchell was so prolific at prevarication and exaggeration that he was a textbook example of Mythomania, i.e., pathological lying. He even induced the noted writer Brad Steiger, who authored his biography, In My Soul I Am Free, to include numerous distortions about him and his family’s history. So outrageous were the lies that it prompted a close Twitchell family member to declare ‘His book is full of lies. Most everyone who knew him [Paul] considered him a crook…. I am sorry to hear of anyone being hooked on his teachings." The evidence of Twitchell’s Mythomania was so extensive that an entire chapter is devoted to this subject alone. Confessions documents, in more than 300 footnotes, the countless examples of plagiarism, lying, fabrication and distortion that constitute the spiritual betrayal that Johnson uncovered. Included in these discoveries was the astonishing admission by Twitchell’s wife and co-founder that Eckankar was a fraud and that Paul Twitchell had simply "made up the whole Eckankar thing." Indeed, Confessions reveals the scope of that fabrication. The spiritual betrayal is most apparent in the reliance that Twitchell’s adherents place in his admitted 1965 invention of a super spiritual being he called the Mahanta, the Living Eck Master. Though newly minted, he proclaimed that he and his successors to this position were "born of virgin birth", were "God made flesh" and "the Son of God." Indeed, Twitchell’s Mythomania crossed over into Megalomania when he declared: "All the power of God must reach these worlds through the perfect instrument of the Mahanta, the Living Eck Master [i.e. through him and his successors.] There is no other way for he is the distributor of the power." Confessions also shows how Twitchell meticulously created the history and legend of a newly minted line of Eck Masters. He claimed them to be the most ancient on earth. They, along with Eckankar, according to Twitchell, were the source of all known world religions. Such was the magnitude of Twitchell’s mendacity. Confessions goes beyond simply showing patterns of spiritual betrayal and deception in Eckankar. It also explores similar patterns found in other religions that may have been the blueprint Twitchell followed to create Eckankar. As such, it sounds a warning to all sincere seekers of what to avoid and how to spot deception in any spiritual path. But the book’s greatest contribution to spiritual discourse is not its revelation of patterns and strategies of religious deception but the eternal message of spiritual empowerment which derives from a recognition that every person is a God-seeker, a spark of God. Through successive life experiences every soul is expanding in its awareness to encompass the single truth behind their existence, which Johnson succinctly summarizes in seven words: I AM, GOD IS, WE ARE ONE. The author elaborates on this simple truth in Part IV of Confessions, which describes: [T]he nexus between recent scientific discoveries and ageless spiritual truths that transcend all religions, myths, dogmas, and rituals. It describes the spiritual search of humankind through countless religions, which comprise the spiritual classrooms of life. Confessions then explains the universal spiritual laws of life, the why of our spiritual journey and how these laws, when properly understood and applied, can bring happiness, abundance and spiritual unfoldment.

#1,748,110 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

It's difficult to rate this book because while I enjoyed reading it and found it interesting, it misses the mark and can potentially mislead seekers. Who is this book appropriate for? A narrow band of folks in my opinion... active Eckists who are strong enough to digest it and put it in proper perspective without letting it turn their world inside out... and former Eckists who became disillusioned with the path and turned again it. Although the second part of the book attempts to "unmask" religion in general, I doubt if those who are unfamiliar with Eckankar would find the first part interesting enough to get that far.In order to help the reader understand where I'm coming from, I am an active higher initiate in Eckankar who has been on the path since the mid-80's. I first read this book over a decade ago because I knew Ford as an acquaintance and I respected him as a dedicated leader in Eck. I'd heard rumors about why he left but I wanted to see for myself. Prior to reading this I was familiar with the anti-Eck memes as expressed by David Lane, a very bright person who dedicated much of his life to being against something that is precious to a lot of people. Lane's three-pronged attack was that Paul Twitchell, the founder of Eckanar, 1) lied about his age; 2) plagiarized extensively; and 3) fabricated much of the history and lineage of Eckankar. Johnson took Lane's work, giving it his own twist. The above accusations appear to have some legitimacy. However Doug Marman, another higher initiate wrote an outstanding antithesis that countered each argument and came much closer to the truth. I am certainly not going to repeat Doug's arguments here. I only seek to offer my own take on this. Reading anti-Eck material such as this book has the potential to shatter one's spiritual foundation. But this never happened to me. I read with a grain of salt and looked for the deeper meaning. I knew there was a deeper meaning because I asked myself the most critical question: Is this path working for me? It certainly was and still is. What evidence do I have that the path is the genuine article? I've had many spiritual experiences. I won't recount any specific ones here, other than that I often hear the music of the spheres, including as I write this.Lane and Johnson used the three-pronged anti-Eck evidence to form a very unflattering characterization of Paul. For example, he lied about his age to acquire a younger wife; he unethically stole the work of others; and he created a false path simply to build for himself wealth and power. But this does not jibe with the man people knew. Anyone who knew Paul Twitchell personally knew that above all else he was kind. I doubt that a selfish person could muster the energy, commitment and dedication that he displayed in seeking truth. He traveled the world seeking those who had truth... who had broken through to a broader dance with life... and he read whole libraries of books gathering nuggets of truth here or there. Once one develops a framework of spiritual understanding, one becomes capable of recognizing truth when he sees it, and is deeply inspired by it. And I believe what drove Paul to the ends of the earth seeking truth was not merely selfish gain, but a wonderful burning desire to help everyone to a deeper understanding of life. Thus I see the plagiarism not as an attempt to steal the work of others for personal profit, but as noble effort to collect the very best for enrichment and enlightenment, and then seeking to share what he found with others. The most vexing problem in all of this is the claim that he fabricated the history of the path. This would lead one to question whether the many past masters were authentic human beings who once walked this earth. If not, then how do Eckists resolve that with the fact that we have had very real inner experiences with them? There is no doubt that there are beings who are highly advanced spiritually. They work with anyone who is open and ready to receive them, not just Eckists, and they may often appear in a form that will be of comfort to us while at the same time indicating to us that they are someone capable of helping us grow spiritually. What this boils down to is this. Is it more important that a given master's biography be historically accurate... or that an entity who appears as that given master can actually help us? Are we willing to accept help if that help appears to come from the realm of legend and myth, in the earthly sense? Of course when an entity appears in our dreams or contemplation we do have to test it to be sure it is at least there to help us and not take advantage of us. But once satisfied that the entity is there to help us, I think the other concerns fade to the background.I have found this path to bring a lot of these inner experiences in which higher beings, including the inner master who is obviously a genuine soul on this earth, come to teach and inspire us. Is some of this success attributable to what we might call a spiritual placebo effect. Some of the Eck writings make fantastic claims that the path of Eckankar is "all that". I've always had a little skepticism in this regard, but my natural skepticism has always been mitigated by the fact that this path has helped me immensely. As Sri Harold Klemp remarked very early in his tenure, "there is light and love in this path, such as I have never seen in any other." Although I have not tried very many other paths, I am convinced that this is true. I also believe that it is of great spiritual benefit to me that I believe that my path is the best and there is none higher. Ford Johnson may feel he has found a greater truth outside of Eck and I wish him the best. But as for me, why would I go looking elsewhere when it works for me?The question of Paul's date of birth never bothered me. I chalked it up to his enjoyment of cloaking himself in a bit of mystery.

I have just finished reading this book and it is excellent. I highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about leaving Eckankar, as well for anyone who is thinking about joining Eckankar. This book completely and accurately proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Eckankar is indeed a dangerous mind controlling cult started by Paul Twitchell and is now being run my Harold Klemp who perpetuates all of Paul's fabrications about his having been God in the physical universe as well as perpetuating the completely false fabrication of the Order of the Varagi, which has never existed. This book proves that Harold Klemp is a False Prophet and that he continues to propagate completely false information about the origins of Eckankar. In addition, this book explains in great detail that Harold Klemp continues to state in both his writings and public talks that,he,like Paul Twitchell,is also God in the physical universe, and that the only way back home to God for each person is by following Harold Klemp and becoming a member of Eckankar, both statements of which this book completely substantiates are 100% false. After reading this deeply revealing book, you will also agree with author Ford Johnson (both a former member and leader of Eckankar), that Eckankar is,indeed, an extremely dangerous mind controlling cult.Do yourself a great favor and read this book and stay as far away as possible from Eckankar. You'll be grateful if you do.

Ford Johnson has done an effective job in pointing out, in the Eckankar literature, many factual errors, plagiarisms, and what may be apparently made up from fancy or imagination. He goes on to draw conclusions that if some parts of Eckankar are made up or improperly borrowed or mis-attributed, then all of it may be suspect. How can we judge such things?I try to classify my knowledge into 3 categories: 1) those things in which I have direct experience; 2) those things which are intuitively right for me, and 3) those things I don't know for sure, even if from an authoritative source. It was helpful to understand there are many things about Eckankar which fall into category 3. For instance,* I have not observed the passing of a Rod of power. I don't' know if it happens as described or if it happens at all* There are many Eck masters with whom I have not had personal experience. I don't' know if they exist. I have no idea if there has been an unbroken line of 973 masters* Has Eckankar been the basis of all religions as is claimed?* and so on for dozens of other examplesThe book challenged me in exactly the way Ford wanted to make me think: if parts are made up or untrue, then is the entire religion made up to enhance Paul Twitchells ego?I've been in Eckankar for nearly 30 years. I have gained immensely from this path. Has it all been false? Have I been duped? I wondered for a while. Then I went back to my direct experiences with Eckankar:* When I first read Eckankar: Key to Secret Worlds I was overjoyed. I had spent until 34 years old looking for truth in religion after religion. In this one book, I found more truth than I had encountered in total in my life. I knew I was home* I have had literally hundreds of spiritual experiences with Eck masters, from the sublime to the mundane. These are as real to me as this outward world--more real, in many ways* Eckankar works as advertised in my experience. You need to train yourself to connect with spirit. That's what all religions are about, whatever you call the technique* Before I even knew what it was, I had the darshan, the inner meeting with the Mahanta, Living Eck Master, just prior to attending my first Eckankar seminar. Since then, the Mahanta has been with my consciousness, advising me directly, just as we all have spirit guidesI have had many experiences with Ford Johnson. As he describes in his book, he was constantly on stage, speaking about Eckankar. My impressions then were interesting; I was greatly impressed with his talks, they were so eloquent and full of wisdom. Yet when I tried afterwards to remember anything he said, I simply could not remember. Nothing registered with me, in spite of having such a positive impression. In his book, Ford chides the Living Eck Master, Harold Klemp, for giving such simple stories. I agree that there are many times when I wish he would give a more intellectually satisfying talk. Yet I seem to retain all his stories, and remember them when I am in certain situations. The other impression I had of Ford is one of having a vast ego. This is not a criticism, but an observation. (As a newcomer to Eckankar, I had no way to judge what the culture and expected behaviors should be.) Ford was almost the antithesis of Harold Klemp, who was so humble as to be almost hidden. I felt that Ford must be very impatient with Harold, as Ford was outwardly educated, lived in an expensive and lovely home, had his own business, and was very successful. I wondered, even in the 80's, if Ford was going to be the next Eck Master. The entire situation with Graham and his experiences with the light and sound were uniquely for Graham, and ultimately for Ford, I believe. For Ford I think this was a test. When he found evidence to support the idea that someone was greater in the spiritual hierarchy than Harold Klemp, how would he react? Was this the very thing he was looking for, to find that Graham, as his proxy, was blessed to be a higher consciousness than the current Living Eck Master? This is my own takeaway from Ford's book. When he was asked to step down from his position, and realign with the Eck, his ego couldn't stand being disciplined by one who was not as advanced a soul as he considered himself to be. Thus began his undertaking to destroy Eckankar as a religion, and put himself as a leader of another religion.I have had my own tests by the Eck Masters where I have been told directly certain things were true. In these tests I have rejected what I was told because in the core of me this was not true. As a Master-in-Training, I think we will be tested in this way, and see if we can, of ourselves, be our own truth. You may ask, "Isn't this exactly what Ford has done? Found his own truth?"I would say, based on my understanding of the book, that Ford's ego rejected all the evidence that he had found as Soul to support Eckankar as his chosen path. His own direct experiences demonstrated the reality of the religion to him. Indeed he was a well-developed soul, we could all tell that. But I think he let his ego convince him that all he knew to be Truth as he discovered in Eckankar, was an inconvenient truth.I share this book review with the current and future readership of Confessions of a God Seeker, as it may be helpful to balance some of the other reviews, which seem not to understand Paul Twitchell's great achievement.Would it have been helpful for me, when first reading The Key to Secret Worlds for Paul to have written it as a scholarly, footnoted volume? It simply would not have had the impact it did. There's truth and facts, and they may not be exactly the same in these physical worlds. I know what I know, and it's based on countless incarnations, lifetimes of learning.Followers of Islam often tell me how much Muhammad was able to accomplish during his years on earth. Paul had only 6 years as the Mahanta, Living Eck Master. However he put the religion of Eckankar together, whatever shortcuts he took, I am very grateful.
