I have Osage blood in my family,but since while I was growing up in the fifties,it was not popular to be of Indian blood,I didn't know about Osage heritage. This book is great. I am very impressed with the Osage, they were,and are, an impressive group. I'm proud of my small connection to them

He gives attention to traditional social organization, political organization, and the Osage economy. After this, he turns to a political narrative, telling how the movement of other tribes from the eastern United States led to conflicts that eventually destroyed Osage dominance of their homeland. By the late 1820s, they were completely under the control of the United States government.This is an academic book but clearly written. It keeps an eye on the major themes without getting bogged down in detail. Definitely worth a read if you are interested in the topic.

However, the Author or publisher goofed on one of the References/Source cited: He cites " Wiggers, Robert "Osage Culture Change Inferred from Contact and Trade with the Caddo and Pawnee" an unpublished PH.D Dissertation, University of Missouri 1985. The Author of this Dissertation is Robert Wiegers, Professor of History, Central Methodist College, Fayette, MO. I am a former student of his and have a copy of the Dissertation. This is probably a typographical error, but it would confuse the researcher.

Once finished with the single chapter I tell them the name of tomorrow night's chapter to whet their appetite. Invariably, they beg, "One more chapter! Just one more!" It's written in a great first-person style the kids relate to. The illustrations and "I stink" humor of the wimpy Marc engage my kiddos and there is anticipation built into each chapter that makes us wanting to keep turning the pages to find out what happens next. Salt.Jocko's jiu-jitsu training has moved from the mat to the written word: the lessons are not delivered with telegraphed haymakers but with 'subliminal, verbal judo' and allegory.I'm so glad I took a chance and got this for our family. Lessons and lectures from dad can meet with resistance and eye-rolling (akin to teaching my wife handgun skills), but coming from a third party the instruction is eagerly welcomed! "...a prophet is not accepted in his hometown..."Now they are more eager to exercize (loved how they lit up when "burpees" were mentioned in the book - "hey, we know them, Dad! You taught us those!") And when it is homework or get-ready time I remind my kids about Marc and Uncle Jake - and suddenly they're all in. They used to whine when it was mean ol' dad asking, but they'll do what's needed when characters they admire/identify with or like from the book show them the benefit of discipline.If this became a franchise ala 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' we'd be all in for future installments. Reading this has opened us up to more substantive reading - we'll weave in some quality kids books to our nightly reading that are beyond the fluff of kittens, Minecraft and Dr.Seuss thanks to TWotWK.The book will definitely support the 'all in, all the time' credo we're inculcating into our little ones.HOOYAH!p.s. "Zero dark-thirty" is now a part of my son's vocabulary and he laughs every time he says it and my daughter loves to say how she and mom need garbage can lids being clanged to wake up. It's been a great opportunity for bonding and laughing (while sneakily influencing their behavior!).

To toughen him up a little and 2. To get him interested in reading on his own.Each night we would read 2-3 chapters before bedtime and before long, he kept asking me during the day if we were going to read it again that night.We both started referencing points in the book at times when something reminded us of it and began sharing the stories with friends and family.Before the end of the book, my son would be getting up early, setting his alarm to be the second out of bed, after dad.At the end of the book, my son asked if we could buy the 2nd book in the series...It's been about a week since we finished the book and last night he began reading the book on his own from the start.This is exactly what we needed. As he turned his gaze, their eyes locked."J-j-j-j-jocko?!", he stuttered."Good Evening, Dad", grumbled a smirking Jocko Willink."How did you... What are you...""I am sorry, Dad. This was the only way for me to get YOU to take YOUR medicine."Jocko went on to explain how he pulled off this elaborate con known in the SEAL Teams as The Willink Switcharoo. The objective of The Willink Switcharoo is for Jocko to implant an idea into someone's mind so stealthily that they believe they came up with it. With his target consumed with the execution of "their" idea, Jocko is able to slip in and administer the needed intervention to the unconscious target.After realizing what happened, Dad was speechless. The authors state in chapter one that they will provide "clear relevance for rural areas." What they demonstrate is East Coast, big-city myopic sour-grapes disapprobation.I appreciate the author's stated desire for pragmatism, but what is pragmatic in a city of millions is often unwise in a city of 10,000. For us in small cities and towns, we've not experienced a catastrophic loss in (misplaced) hope in our federal leaders, resulting in a sudden desire to move power to a local level. We've always focused locally, regardless of whether a D or R occupied the Oval Office. I was hoping this book would help me to lead better within my small city, but I will probably use it as overpriced fire starter.In summary, If you live in NYC, Philly, Baltimore, etc., you might enjoy this read. After waiting forever, it seems like… to get my grabby hands on this latest release from Dark Author Whitney Bianca, I am left with the feelings that there needs to be more! Although there was an ending, it seems like there could be more to come. **Fingers Crossed**Adrienne has always walked on the outside of the box. Raised with money surrounding her, she chose not to be one of the society girls. She chose to run bare footed and get dirty. Her life has been one turmoil after another. Choosing to become a photographer and traveling the world capturing the worst of all moments. But one thing that she can’t forget is…Dorian Armstrong he first laid eyes on Adrienne when he was 17 and she was 14. Yet never a day went by that he didn’t think of her. Now older and married to someone else, he finally makes his move to capture the one he could never forget.This book is quite the page turner! Darkness surrounds Dorian and he will stop at nothing to ensure that Adrienne will always be his.This would have been a 5-star book for me if, although a small amount, there needs to be an editor to correct the spelling mistakes. Also, it would be nice to have headings at each chapter. I would start a new chapter and it would take a couple sentences before I knew who the chapter was about. Just little details like this could make a 4-star book a 5-star book in my opinion.Please heed the warning attached to this book. It is in place for a reason.

I'm not going to lie, there are some editing misses here and there- but they were few and far in between, and dididn't detract from the story. The characters, plot, twists, and suspense were amazingly unpredictable, and deeply compelling. Plus the main character is strong, independent, cunning, and a real badass that doesn't like to go down without a fight, which I definitely prefer over the weak-minded fools you typically come across in this genre. If you like articulate untraditional dark stories, that isn't written for childish adults- than this is the book for you.Come to think of it, even if you are a Basic Becky that digs common tropes, and stereotypes- get this book anyway. Mix it up and live a little, B.

Slight spoilers in 3rd paragraph, nothing too big.Miss whitney Bianca, I have been WAITING for you to write another dark romance. I loved "I know what love is" and "love is strange." You have unbelievable talent, and I can't wait to see what you come up with next.I am a dark romance lover, and this book was definitely dark. I will say this, the story took a turn that I was not expecting it to, but it was so good. I love when I'm reading and I feel as though I'm getting to know the characters. For me that's the sign of a good writer. And the complex couple that was of Dorian and Adrienne was just amazing.Warning however, if cheating bothers you, beware. The H has a wife and mistress while persuing the h. I'm not usually a fan of that, but you just have to know and understand Dorian, which miss Bianca makes you do flawlessly.

I'm sure the disclosures before you start reading warn you about the content but this is not for the faint of heart!!!! I'm not sure what I was expecting I skimmed those warnings for sure. But as I read this book every chapter left me drunk dying to know what was going to happen on Dorian and Adriennes rollercoaster. I hate cheating after the H & H meet. But it didn't bother me perhaps it was because Dorian is certified sociopath who doesn't even regret half of it.... So much of this story is cringeworthy But Ghhood I found his relentlessness romantic... Which had me thinking perhaps NO MORE WINE tonight! Lol. I loved it. Every sick minute.

Loved the start but it got super odd at the end and I was left with a, "that's it?".In short, an obsession where it just remained an obsession and I didn't feel there was much passion between the MCs.

If you are a lover of DARK reads... you might want to pick this one up.....Super Dark, Lots of surprises and when I say Dark.. it does not get much darker but the ending was really good and so it always seems to make it better when two very messed up people in the world find each other and connect...Was a really kept me on my seat read...

He's deranged, obsessed, arrogant and hot! I want all of his crazy😍..well done Whitney!!!!!Give this story a chance you won't regret it.
