Dr. Baglione has published works exploring contemporary Russian foreign policy, post-settlement peacebuilding, the arms control decision-making process in the United States, the Soviet Union, and Russia, and the research-paper writing process, and has co-authored articles on the transformation of the Russian polity and economy in the early post-communist period. Currently, she is researching conflict transformation in the twenty-first century and contemporary Russian center-periphery relations. It is, truly. This is the book I wished I had bought when i had decided on my major. This is the book that helps you map out the paper and helps you distinguish between the paper you want to write and the paper your professor is looking for. Because they are very, very different. Sure, writing about the Iranian Revolution and its impact on United States foreign policy is cool. But what point does it have if you yourself don't draw a line in the sand and say the U.S. had only itself to blame or stupid Iranians had it coming. Not only do you have to draw that line but you have to argue and counter-argue your own points and raise any objections readers may have before you attempt to toss their criticisms to shreds. This book does that and in the most elegant of ways. Using this, I wrote a 50+ page thesis paper on Congressional bipartisanship and had the paper peer-reviewed and published. In the academic community, that's a BIG deal. The paper was written well before the current political system seized power and actual bipartisanship could and often times did exist. Ah, better times. Anyway, buy this book if you're a political science major. You'd be dumb if you didn't.

Very good lecture on how to write good research papers.Especially as a non-english native speaker I find this very helpful, as it is written in easy language and if you keep reading this side-by-side when you start your research project, it is very convenient!

I used this book when I was doing my undergrad work and it is an excellent reference guide, especially if you do a capstone or senior thesis. It's easy to understand and can provide you a framework to work off of. Needless to say I lent my copy to a friend who didn't return it, so when I decided to go to grad school I immediately purchased another copy. If you have problems with structuring your papers or articles, buy this book it will help you.

I really enjoyed a fresh new twist on zombies, and the idea/ set up was very creative. Parts of it were a little far fetched, in terms of the fighting zombie action, and I would have liked some sort of explanation for why this little hidden group of klansman had become zombies, not just an explanation for why there was a group of klansmen hidden in the back woods. It would have been good to see more of a tie between the skinheads and the zombie town- the skinheads obviously know about it, but there's no tie offered past that in terms of each group's interaction, other than their obvious racism.The writing itself needs a bit of work, especially in the area of sentence structure. Far too many sentences begin with 'and' or 'which'. At one point I counted 6 sentences in a row starting with 'and'! Makes for a bit of an awkward read with such repetitiveness.Aside from needing some sentence structure variation, it seemed well edited, without formatting or punctuaction issues you find in so many Kindle works.Overall, ok story that was an enjoyable variation on the zombie theme, but needs some more developement overall in the writing. I would consider future works by this author after a careful 'Look Inside' check to see if they had progressed to a more varied writing style.

Fast and furious, just like the movie the story name dropped. The story was well-written (I chuckled a couple of times at the wordplay) and the action was more or less continuous, an attribute that plays well in this genre. The white supremacist angle isn't one I've run across previously and gave the backdrop for the story an interesting cultural twist. And care was taken to develop the characters into more than just stock caricatures - opportunities for redemption to atone for previous mistakes are offered and it was engaging to see if (and how) the protagonists dealt with them. Best of all, Payne seemed perfectly willing to kill any and all of his characters. The unpredictability kept you flipping the pages to see how it all played out. I sense a sequel from the last paragraph (and will be back to see what happens when it comes out).

I really enjoyed this book it is a great story. I cannot believe that Terrence was the only one to survive; I wanted Lonnie to live. However the ending is strange. I am thinking there will be a part two. The reason I gave this book three stars is because I feel that some things were left out. For instance, what exactly happened in Forresttown. I think it needs more details, but overall a good read.

I read this in one sitting. I loved the story line of African American males getting stuck in a town on KKK zombies. The ending totally threw me for a loop and my friends and I are still debating whether it was done on purpose. GREAT BOOK!!

This book of poems (mostly micropoems) and prose poetry is utterly breathtaking. I read it in a single sitting and wanted to read it again and again. nayyirah waheed has taken the unique experience of being an African-American woman and written poems that cut incredibly close to the bone as a mixed Asian-American poet. The grief of diaspora and nonbelonging, the raw open softness of pain, the crystal clarity of the words, hurts like prodding a bruise I carry. And then the next poem is a soft wash of ocean water reminding me that healing in a violent world is a radical act and the lancing of the wound is the beginning of healing from the pain and transforming it before it goes septic in the heart.What has been done with such tiny poems is breathtaking. They are whole cosmos exploding with meaning. Every poet interested in the micropoem form should read this refined, intense collection, which reflects topics as diverse as racism, childhood abandonment, bisexuality, gender, African-American identity, trauma and healing, writing, and love poems, all kinds of love, both bitter salt and honey sweet. It is one of the most accomplished collections I've ever read, far more than much of the collections by authors far more famous. At any price it is a masterclass lesson in form, as well as a deeply moving series of intimate essays. It's not easy. It's not spoon-fed. It is incredibly beautiful and will challenge non black readers, while also offering catharsis to some people of color, especially black women.I haven't been this impressed with a poetry collection in a long time. I can't wait to see what is next from waheed and her poetry.

I really like her poetry style, it's very unique and keeps me turning the page. I used to say I was glad to live after Pablo Neruda lived so I can enjoy his work. With one poem, "i have seven different words for love. you have only one. that makes a lot of sense," I now say that I'm glad to live at the same time as Nayyirah Waheed. Her work says what we've been thinking in the best, most beautiful way possible. My heart gushes over each page. She's beautiful, clever, and encouraging. She's just what the world needed right now.

I'm sort of pre-emptively rating this a 5, because this is a book I have yet to finish. The poetry is alive, the words with a depth that I have not often found in the works of other authors. Because of this, I find that I usually cannot read through more than a handful of these works at a time, being forced to stop and reflect and put the book down because the images are not easily dismissed.Hopefully I remember to update this review when I finish it - which I will, I'm certain - but for now, I LOVE IT.

OK. This book is very dry and I'm surprised that a fellow as well lauded as the author writes in such a mish-mash manner. He needed a good editor to help him tell the Capital story the way it should have been told.But I'm glad I read the book to learn more about the original driving personalities and culture of the company that has remained under the radar for years. Of course, since the Big Recession 'Capital' has undergone a re-organization and many of the old stalwarts are retired or side-lined, the company has been streamlined, and the 'money management by committee' scheme has been redesigned, so admittedly the book is dated.But it's still a good 'inside' look at how one regional money management company grew to become one of the biggest and most respected international investment companies in the twentieth century. And the book is an informative insight in to the differences among various fund management companies and their various philosophies with regard to serving their clientsIf you are investing a significant amount of money, your own or other people's, in managed or indexed stock funds, it's a good book to know about.

Good history on a great company. I was there in 1969 when it was run by Jonathon Lovelace. Glad it prospered; it was a good company to work for.

Worthwhile read for someone interested in Capital Group. Provides an historical account (lot of detail) of how the firm and it's philosophy were founded. Most useful for someone interested in interviewing or investing with Capital Group.

Capital, the parent firm of American Funds, is one of the finest business organizations in American Business. This book was written by an index fund /no-load proponent who was looking to debunk American Funds (which are neither indexed, nor no-load) and instead he (Ellis) discovered their exceptional values, performance and pricing. This story is fast-paced and highly interesting, both to Advisors and clients.

As a user of Lightroom 3, not Creative Suite, I took a chance that this book would provide some good details on Lightroom. It exceeds my expectations by a wide margin. Probably 95% of this book is directly applicable to Lightroom; the only significant deviations are in the file management when Camera Raw is under control of Bridge or Photoshop whereas in Lightroom some of the file management features don't exist, or are covered in the Import function. A few other minor differences don't detract at all from the applicability of this book to Lightroom 3.The organization, clarity of writing, and the full round trip from big-picture overview of concepts to the details of *how* to do operations are just magnificently done. While this is a book on specifically Camera Raw 6, the first couple of chapters are broad applicability to any digital photographer who wants to understand where the data in a digital image comes from (it's not very intuitive), how it is processed within the camera (surprisingly complex), and what needs to be processed externally and how the data and metadata in the image affects all steps of image processing. The tradeoffs of RAW vs. processed/compressed images (JPEG) are well addressed in a reasonably unbiased fashion.I have about half a dozen books on various topics related to Lightroom, color, workflow, and so on, and Real World Camera Raw (RWCR) far outshines all of them in both breadth and depth of useful, practical techniques. Every feature of Camera Raw is covered, not as a checklist but with very clear emphasis on the things that are most important and always within the context of why and what is going on with the data. Short passing mentions of less important or duplicated functions don't clutter the book and keep the reader focused on the key concepts and techniques. The goal of the book is to equip the reader with the conceptual framework, the understanding of the important questions and tradeoffs, all the way down to the specific techniques, that make for the best possible image file to feed into the next stage of processing. In the case of a Lightroom user like myself, that "final stage" is actually the end result -- the printed, displayed, or shared image, so to a large extent RWCR is an absolutely outstanding "Missing Lightroom Manual", far and away the best I've seen.I particularly enjoyed the clarity of discussion of how the basic tone controls impact the available data in the image, and the resulting observation that photos should be just slightly overexposed to maximize the information that can be produced. The discussions of sharpening and noise reduction are also very well done, and these features in Lightroom 3 (or, Camera Raw 6) are particularly well evolved.After reading RWCR you will have a firm grasp of how to approach optimizing the quality of each image, whether you are a beginning or advanced Lightroom 3 or Camera Raw 6 user. Hats off to the authors for an outstanding work with immediately useful information on almost every page.

I am an digital photography enthusiast. I was looking for a detailed step by step digital editing manual using Photoshop CS5 and its Camera Raw CS5 software. I own relatively old Canon EOS 20D with 8.3 MGPX SLR camera. All my shootings are done in strictly Raw format and all my raw images are in Canon CR2 extension file type. There is no question about some benefits of this book for actually any type of photographers, however, unless you are a professional photographer and this is how you make your living but not a hobbyist like me, you are going to be somehow disappointed with the content of the book information. I am very much analytical person and my profession is in the computer programming field so I have developed this ability to learn from a book complex and highly analytical information and processes. The author of this book mostly focuses on how to organize and efficiently process your images using Camera Raw and Bridge CS5 using the concept of the Workflow without actually spending too much time on the image editing itself using the Camera Raw as a step by step manual. He only dedicated 2 chapters for using Camera Raw software and he actually did not show you and explain as if your image had that problem, you would have to use that tool to do that type of an adjustment and why. He just tells you that Jeff made highlights warmer and shadows cooler, or sometimes he would say you might have to do either Parametric or Point adjustments, or use Split Toning and so on showing some sample images that you can download but far not all of them. He did not connect the image particular problems with Camera Raw very large array of adjustments to correct them. Despite the fact he follows you with the usage of different tools and shows you how to use them but unfortunately, you can't pinpoint the specific principles for doing right editing adjustment for specific image problems. The most frustration I've got when the author shows some dialog boxes with the properties, however, he fails to tell you where to find these dialog boxes and you have to search around in your software page interface for the place where you can click some menus or preferences and might find this optional dialog boxes. All in all, this book is mostly dedicated to professional photographers for planning, strategies, organizing and filtering images, metadata of images, workflow and as how to use Adobe Bridge CS5 to make it all easy.If you really want to understand the Camera Raw image editing software, I think you should try to find a book that targets a hobbyist in digital photography who is looking to find technique for creating his images as close as possible to professional ones as we do not deal with thousands of images on a weekly basis and really do not need all these organizing and special strategic workflow skills to save some time.

The information in this Kindle edition definitely kicked my image processing skills up a notch. The only difficulties I've had with the Kindle edition are areas where Adobe's ACR program doesn't really make much sense, and the fact that the example images are smallish and grainy on my iPad. They do the job, however.I wasn't sure if this was the latest available version, but it's certainly up to date. Only the latest features in e.g. 7.3 and 7.4 ACR are not covered, but there is enough meat here to go a long way.

I'm a self-taught photographer/PhotoShopper and this is an excellent teaching tool. Concepts are very clearly explained and the relationship between Camera Raw and Photoshop CS-- is explored nicely - such as, how much to do in Camera Raw and when to move to PhotoShop.I use CS6 and sometimes CS4. But this book is directly applicable to both and well worth a very detailed read if you are exploring how to use these powerful tools.

Bought as a gift for a digital photography enthusiast, who reported that it contains so much information on the fundamental concepts of the processes involved that it has wide application beyond the exact version of the software discussed,

might be an older publication, and product CS5, but the information and usefulness is timeless.

This book explains in minute detail how to get the best from pictures taken in the raw format.How the controls works down to the why you will not take many pictures in the jpeg format ever again.Great read,easy to follow and once you see the different it makes,you will be hooked too.
