When I was in elementary school in rural NH (2 classrooms in the building as I started & 4 as I departed at 6th grade), my Great-Aunt was the local librarian. For 1 hour a week, she read to each grade. This book still rings in my memory very high from my 4th grade experience. I know it must have taken her a few weeks to read it to us, but the reading time I do not remember. What I strongly remember is that after she finished reading to us, the whole class jumped up & wanted to sign the book out. This did not happen often. Boys & girls; all of us wanted to sign the book out. A bit ashamed, I have to admit that she saw in me the book reader/scholar that I was to become (I went on to college a few times-few people in my town did that), and I became the first 4th grader to get to sign the book out. I have loved horses ever since & the Morgan breed is special and "local" to me now. A great historical read.

As a horse-crazy girl some 60 years ago, I had most of Marguerite Henry's books. They were all the nice big hard cover ones.... I bought this set for a visiting 8 year-old grand-niece who is also horse-crazy, and read a chapter or two of "Misty" to her every night at bed-time. She was as enthralled by the story as I remember being. This smaller paperback format allowed me to easily pack it into her suitcase so she could take the books home with her.

I was SO disappointed to get this set today, just before Christmas with no chance to get anything else for my granddaughter. I loved these books so much as a kid, but the gorgeous John Wesley Dennis illustrations are so important to the story - especially for a 4 1/2 year old being read to. Nothing in Amazon's description warns about this - or the small format of the books either - 5" x 7 1/2". And who did that cover illustration? Doesn't look like John Wesley Dennis to me... what a shame. I wish I had known. I would have chosen something else. These will be returned.

I grew up on these stories. Is a birthday gift for my 8yo neighbor.received as expected

I gave the series to my 7-year-old great nephew for Christmas this year and he was super excited to read a book that included stories about horses. I read them when I was about his age and horse crazy (like him). He's an avid reader already and I believe he'll enjoy the books just as much as I did nearly 50 years ago. They're timeless.

Also bought this set for my 8 year old grand daughter that loves to read and loves horses. She cant get enough of Marguerite Henry's books. They keep you so involved and are so easy to read. Ms Henrys writing flows so easily. I highly recommend all her books for any young or old child that is interested in horses

These are some of the most beloved horse stories around. The human characters are interesting, the horses always fascinating. The illustrations are wonderful, too. These are adventures you'll want to pass on to your children and grandchildren. No childhood is complete without these books.

My grandson really enjoyed these books. He loves horses so anything he can read about them is great. My only complaint is that sometimes the event dates the author relates to are not accurate or are not in proper sequence. I think it would be good to read these before or with the child to correct some of these.

We all have our own tastes in stories. These satisfy my appetite. I am not a voracious reader, so short stories sue\it me best. It takes a great writer to develop the plot and the characters in a short time.

he is a superb writer. finished the entire collection in 3 days. the ones about the mathematician Nachman are extraordinary. Michaels has a captivating style, as well as poignant stories. very sorry he's not around to write anymore.

I chose the rating because this COLLECTED STORIES is one I have never owned before. So, now I can lose myself in revisiting all that delicious creativity. I lost a treasured edition with fewer stories years ago. I like Kafka's observations regarding his own writing and how he thinks about it. The ELEVEN SONS is a good example . The book exceeded my expectation and every day as I sit down to read, I am more delighted with it. Fran Jansen

Very intruiging stories, finely-wrought.

Michaels has an abrupt writing style that sometimes feels as if he's rapidly throwing rocks at the reader who must catch them all to understand what's going on.the stories, though written 40- 50 years ago, feel like they could have been written yesterday and give an accurate description of urban living

Carey's blend of twisted realities are a centerpiece of many of these stories. They coincide with the Australia of some of his books, the 1980s and 1990s, with crooked crooks and freewheeling scam artists.

Pretty violent stuff. Heard a story on NPR which I liked, and that led to this purchase. The stories are dark, and not subject matter I prefer. But the guy could write, fantastic control.

First and foremost, I used to LOVE Lonely Planet guides. They were always my first (and usually my ONLY) choice when I travel somewhere. I used to always consider their guidebooks to be worthy of 4 or 5 star ratings. Their target audience has always been people like me -- younger budget travelers and backpackers. Lonely Planet used to be very impartial. However, if this guidebook is any indication, it's now become very much the exact opposite.Case in point, take a look at the sections for Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City. The section for Phnom Penh dedicates an excessive amount of article space to convince tourists to go check out a place called the "Foreign Correspondents Club", where they can sit and have overpriced drinks with other tourists, rather than experience any of the actual culture of the city itself. There are thousands of places to get drinks in Phnom Penh, yet they tell you that the "must visit" place for foreigners is this place (which just happens to be 5 to 10 times more expensive than local establishments). This is by no means the only example, but it seems to be one of the most blatant. It makes me question whether Lonely Planet gets paid by these businesses to write these types of articles, which would SERIOUSLY undermine their credibility to their target audience.The same types of issues appear to exist for Ho Chi Minh City. Their 2009 guide book had an interesting article regarding the "Rex Hotel", which used to be a barracks for US service members during the Vietnam War. Now, they don't even list this particular hotel in their listings of places to stay, despite it being one of the most popular and historic. What's the matter, Lonely Planet? Did they not pay you enough to be included?It's still hard for me to believe that Lonely Planet would be deliberately conducting their business in this manner, but I will seriously question whether I ever want to pick up another one of their guides again. Shame on them.

I've been using Lonely Planet guides for many years and always liked their format. This book seems to deviate a little from that. I travelled to Vietnam and Cambodia and after using this book for awhile I couldn't wait to trade it for another Lonely Planet guide (Indonesia). This book was way to general.

Lonely Planets are the best travel guides.

I purchased this guide as an electronic book since we thought it would be easier than lugging a paper copy. However, navigating through the book was annoying and cumbersome. The version of the table of contents that was linked to the TOC option in the kindle reader menu was useless. I self bookmarked another TOC a few pages in, but even this lacked sufficient detail to quickly jump to the sections I wanted. The index was useless and the search function was too simple to use to find anything (this is from kindle, not this particular book). The transportation guide also did not display well and was difficult to dicipher as a result. We downloaded a PDF of a walking tour in Hanoi but could not find the references in the book. It was difficult to match the book references to the corresponding electronic references. I don't think that adding direct links would have been too much to ask.On the good side, it had all of the information one expects from Lonely Planet and recommendations that matched the standards typical for this family of guides. Their specially designed city guide apps for iPhone are far superior, but since we were traveling to additional areas outside major cities, this guide had more information that we wanted. Be prepared to to be frustrated with the navigation. I will go back to paper versions of the guidebooks for my next trip.

I went on a nineteen day trip to Southeast Asia. I found this book useful in filling in many details that I had not obtained elsewhere.

Lonely Planet books are great, but they don't work on a Kindle. Much more work needs to be put into developing hyperlinks to flip from hotel listings to the map, to the page on the transport system. You can do this with a book by keeping a finger in several pages, but doing this with a Kindle is fiddly and frustrating.

I wanted to use this book on my iPad and found that it is very difficult to move around through the book. The Table of Contents is too brief and is counterintuitive. In addition, maps are quite hard to read and there are no photographs included. The formatting is quite ugly.

As a new Kindle owner I purchased the Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Northern Thailand Travel Guide as an easier and lighter option to the heavy paper back version of the guide as I was travelling in that part of the world. I have found it very frustrating to use as the Kindle does not allow for the fact that the reader needs to move from one section to the another in random order and not in a progressive mode as one would in a novel for example. I would not recommend buying a travel guide as a Kindle version as a result and had to in fact buy the paperback version while I was over in Cambodia and am now on the look out for the Vietnam version. The maps are too small and do not enlarge and it is virtually impossible to find the section you need if you leave a page for a related section... Sheer nightmare!

This is a very well organized and well written text book. He showed her just how much fun a bare bottom spanking could be!My favorite aspect about this book was how Ms. Taylor managed to hook me from page one. As soon as I started reading, I couldn’t put this story down. I wanted to see the villains get the justice they deserve and the twins and Dani get the happily ever after they deserved. So loved this book. It is an actual story not just a bunch of sex filling up the pages. Strong H/h and they are perfect for each other. Fantastic story and character building. It's books like this that you wish could go on and on. Loved the drama, suspense and the intrigue within the story. It would be great to know if after the time period stated what happens to Daniel, does he learn his lesson? Does Dani go on to be great at heading the company or what? Minor questions that do not detract from story at all, just me being curious. Loved it and would recommend in a heart beat

i enjoyed the story. poor dani. crazy father kidnapped for a ransom she knew her father wouldn't pay. dani goes through a very rough couple of weeks. she doesn't realize just how strong and stubborn she is. she survives some bad situations. jaylin and malik lose a wife and malik doesn't want another female to fall for. he doesn't want to suffer another loss. jaylin falls for dani right away and she for him. she finds out that they lie to her and is angry and wants nothing more to do with them. jaylin and malik are determined to get her back at any cost. you will have to read the book to see if she forgives them or not. a great story

Whew, what a fantastic book! I knew, before I read it, that I was in for a wonderful experience with this book and let me tell you, this author delivered! A detailed plot with depth, believable characters, twists and turns, danger, suspense and turn up your A/C steam is a dream. No synopsis or spoilers from me, read for yourself and enjoy!! Although, I will say Dani hit the jackpot ;) Seriously, quit reading here and read the book, you'll be happy you did!

This book is absolutely wonderful. Right from the start Dani is in a bit of trouble suspecting that her father hasnt just sent her on a holiday. She us then captured by pirates, her father sends of jaylin and Malik to rescue her and suddenly dani has 2 very large alphas to contend with..I have read a few of maddie taylors books and each one is really great. I thoughly reccommend this book to read you wont be able to stop reading

Maddie writes excellent stories with some great characters.Dani is just experiencing her first tastes of freedom when she finds out her father's bargain for her. Malik and Jaylin are the men who come to her rescue, in more ways than one.I love how it takes time for Malik to warm up and work through his issues and it's not an instant kind of thing. Lovely HEA, and the epilogue makes it better.

I loved the heroine and her independent streak. Of course her men were to die for. They were well done with distinct personality.
