Each of the twelve chapters are filled with Bible verses, stories from both the Old and New Testament that were new to me, and may be new to you as well; personal observations, poems, hymns, quotations, and so much more. I have underlined, re-read, memorized, and marveled at how many times God has promised to strengthen us if we ask. Pastor Morgan discovered 232 passages in the Bible relating to God's willingness to bestow extra strength on those who trust in Him. I greatly appreciate this book and have purchased more copies as gifts for friends. Thank you Morgans for sharing your lives and your testimony as well as your Bible research.

This book is my new favorite! I'll be buying them all year long for gifts because who doesn't need a source of strength? Morgan take some passages I'm familiar with and puts them in the context in which they were written - giving a better perspective on old familiar words. His wife's input on each chapter adds poignancy to our struggle to keep up strength. So helpful!!

Crisis seems to be the word of the day. Daily I'm confronted with my own, a friend's or the world's crisis. It's draining and there are days it seems I can't take another step! I am so thankful for this reminder, that I have the strength needed to do what I'm called to do. I don't have to muster it up, I need to stay connected to the power source and walk in the strength that is mine.This is a must read for every believer!

I have not been disappointed with this book by Robert Morgan. It is an easy to read and reflect upon volume. The contributions from his wife at the end of the chapters highlight the closeness of the two and how his ministry has been THEIR ministry as they've faithfully gone through life challenges together. The 12 strength passages the book highlights are indeed words to cling to during challenging times in life.

I bought the book based on a radio interview with the author. The first few chapters were excellent and convinced me it would make a good read for my friends and I to read together. We really liked Robert Morgan's layout of each chapter that includes some biblical history, a biography, and compelling anecdotes. His writing style is literary but easy to read and very enjoyable. This is a very practical book - applying scriptural truth to our life situations. I've had several opportunities to share with others the powerful truths Morgan presents.

As with any book that properly expounds the word of God this one by Pastor Morgan and his wife Katrina has been a path to finding strength in and from the God who loves me. It has come at a perfect time since life's struggles have been mounting this year...I would recommend this book to any who's heart is weary on the journey.

Recommend this book to anyone who is going through a tough time. The verses are just what I needed and his writing inspiring

great novel, wonderful, true life story

I was absolutely absorbed by this book. I looked forward to every time I picked it up to read. I must start by saying that I am Jewish and absolutely do NOT share the religious views of Corrie Ten Boom. But, this story is so engrossing and moving that my religious views were irrelevant. This is the remarkable story of a remarkable family that literally laid their lives out to save Jews in Holland during WWII. These are people I wish I could hug. Don't be put off by the religious views expressed. Those views caused heroic people to show mercy and empathy in the most brutal period in recent history. The views were not preachy. I only wish that I could do something good for any person that would give respect for the wonderful people in this story.

Nothing in the description informs the reader that this is an abridged version. Many key parts have been cut and section edited and changed so that they read dramatically differently. I ended having to re-buy the other version (the 35th anniversary one) so I could have the entire book.

I have read this book probably 6 times over the course of my life. You think I’d be tired of it by now. Not only do I love reading it and getting something new from it each time, I make sure I have a copy on hand to give out to others. Yes, it is that good. It is a true story of a tragic time in the history of mankind. It details the love, warmth and courage of a family of three; an elderly father and his two spinster daughters who risk everything to save their Jewish neighbors and strangers alike from the Nazi death camps. Read this book! You will not regret it!

Where to begin when it comes to "The Hiding Place" by Corrie ten Boom? I sit here at a loss for words because I know that nothing I can say will begin to display the emotions and thoughts swirling around in my mind. Ms. Boom's story touched a piece of me so deeply, I'm afraid that I will never be the same now. Seeing what she saw, hearing what she heard, things such as these will forever be with me.There are so many things that I have learned when it comes to this story, I would like to state just a few of them here below- not enough to give anything in this story away, but enough to draw you in so that you will want to read what this marvelous woman has to say."There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still." -Casper ten Boom passed on by Corrie."'But,' she said, 'this is what the past is for! Every experience God gives us, every person He puts in our lives is the perfect preparation for a future that only He can see.'" -Corrie ten Boom"'There is sin in this world, and death and loss are consequences of that sin. But you know what? God feels it too. Every tear we cry? God sheds it too. He hurts with us because He loves us.' Her voice grew soft. 'I felt Him, Trent. When I was all alone, my shoulders shaking from grief, I felt His arms wrap around me and His peace embrace me, and I knew. I wasn't alone, He was with me.'" -Corrie ten BoomI cannot began to express to each of you enough the need to read this book at least once in your life time. Please, I promise you, you will not be the same after. You will laugh with Corrie, cry with Corrie, cry out with Corrie in the pain she had to endure, but most importantly God will touch your heart with the miracles He provided her with through all of this. Just take a chance, go back into history a little ways with Ms. Boom, you won't be disappointed.

Whether you are Jew, Christian, Catholic or pagan, this book of history is enlightening for your journey. There are spiritual mentions that shouldn't keep you from reading this book. Just as you would sit respectfully in front of an aunt at a Holiday feast listening politely to a tale, so shall you listen to this one in all its entirety. Every story should be heard. Tin Boom's story holds your attention from concert to cover, bringing you along as if you feel sorrow and joy along side. Encourage others to read it like I was encouraged to read it. Pass history on so that love is spread no matter what religion you are.

It's taken me 6 decades to finally get around to reading Corrie ten Boom's remarkable story. I'm in awe at Corrie's honesty in her weakness, but more in the faith in both Corrie and her sister,Betsy, that sustained them through atrocities I can only imagine....A faith that even enabled them to find joy in fleas! Reading this story has certainly put my own difficulties into perspective and has inspired me to look so much more closely at my own faith. I am truly grateful that I have been so blessed, but I know now that I have to trust God more in every aspect of my life. Thank you, Corrie ten Boom, for sharing your story and for sharing the love of God with a very dark world.

Riveting true story of occupied Holland during WWII. Could not put down, though I knew the unspeakable would occur. A good reminder for today of how fascism starts: First the "state" controls the media and commerce, then bullying comes, with rationing, brutality, curfews, disappearances, genocide. But the hatred, oppression and unspeakable crimes against humanity did not stop the love and good works of this extremely talented, intelligent and faithful family. Their love, their story, and the Resistance, has survived. With many family photos that remind one of one's own relatives only a generation or so ago, and make the story unquestionably come to life. An excellent, excellent read for lovers or history, mystery, or human drama.

For several years, my wife kept trying to convince me to read The Hiding Place. But I thought it sounded like a little child's book. So I kept putting it off. Boy, was I wrong! What an awesome story. I'd give it more than two thumbs up, but I only have 2 thumbs! Well worth taking the time to read, ponder, and absorb how an unseen power guides our lives far more than we realize. I am using this textbook in my college (Math Education majors) Higher Geometry class this semester. The book is very good, it covers very relevant and interesting topics, and is by far the cheapest textbook ever. However as the instructor, I have to spend hours to look up the prerequisites from high school needed to understand all of the theorems. This is true mostly of Chapter One. Often times a five line proof in the textbook takes most of the hour to present properly in the classroom because most of the steps are missing. For the students this is a great deal if the instructor does all the work; for the instructor, a book that would cover the same subjects but with full proofs and a "prerequisites" section would be much more helpful. We are however all fans of the hints in the back of the book to solve the end of section problems.

Good book to flip through. Very nice illustrations.

Fantastic overview of a lot of different shapes and how to recreate mathematically. Design is very clean and readable as a reference, and instructions are fairly straightforward to implement in a wide variety of code environments and other tools.

Nice content. However, it could be my old eyes, but it appears to me that the domain of EVERY single system in this book has been typeset incorrectly. EVERY ONE. I think the domains should read 0≤u≤2π but are shown as 0≤u≥2π.

This is just what I needed. I am new to bird watching, and I am fascinated by the whole process. This book starts with what bird food to buy and where to place it. It shows which birds live in various areas. The book did say that most of the birds feed early---lets me out since I sleep late. However, there is a second feeling late afternoon. This explains why I am peering through my binoculars and seeing nothing around noon. Occasionally, a little bird shows up but not the crowd I expected. The pictures are lovely and the wealth of informations is wonderful. I have bought several books and find most books help to identify but give little information about the bird habits. Perhaps if I were a more sophisticated bird watcher I would need a more informative book---this one is a big help for me. It is all I need to identify, watch, and learn.

Having read the reviews on this book and the other, more comprehensive (and expensive) NG bird book, I am pleased I made this choice so I could enjoy the birds in the small backyard in NJ. I should add that I am a visiting Brit, who has been enthralled by the range and colors of the local avian population. Like another reviewer, I find the 4-page colour index a quick and easy way of identifying the type of bird I'm looking at. The drawings are clear and accurate, include an easy-to-see distribution map, and make it easy to identify adults and juveniles, with key features clearly marked. Information on each species includes:Identification (plumage, similar species, voice)Range (includes migration)Food (includes feeding)Nesting (nest, eggs,mfledgling)This little book will have a lot of use!

As someone who previously relied on Audobon Society books, this one is hands down a must have for those with feeders that like to watch and identify who they are feeding. Mostly drawings, however they are superb renderings. A great resource. I bought this several years ago and recently bought my best friend a feeder and one of these to help her learn more about the indigenous birds in our area. AND, it is also a great price at $10.00 and some change. Great investment or gift for those that enjoy watching their "backyard" birds.

This book is really nice, great pictures, and great information. I'm only dinging it a star because it does not have the boat-tailed grackle, my favorite bird. Maybe that's a bit silly, but it was disappointing to me. It's an easy book to navigate, but it's not a complete compendium of every bird out there. It's definitely a good and approachable guide for someone who is starting to get into bird watching, but would probably fall short for a more experienced bird watcher. I do like the pictures in it, because there's generally a number of pictures of each bird, making it easier to identify them.

I have a 4 year that loves birds...we have several bird feeders and this is the first book I bought. It is a good book. Smaller in size, both inside covers fold out and have the page numbers listed. If you are buying this for a child, I would prob pick a book that offers more picks than this one...this one has great pictures, but is mostly informative and not a love of pictures. Obviously each type is pictured but there are more words than pictures by far. Great book as she gets older and can read the information herself. It does cover all major areas of study.

This is a great little book for backyard bird watching. The pages are full of color photos to help you identify species. Very easy to use. I only wish the pictures of the species of birds would have been bigger. A great item for the beginning birdwatcher.

Really nice looking book for a paper back. Good size. And not stingy with the amount of pages. Pictures are good and it is a totally enjoyable book especially for someone who does enjoy looking at the birds from their window. The book is very well done. Perfect for those that feed the birds in their back yard.

Bird sighting & attracting songbirds are my new goals in birding. The photos in this book are rich in color. The information on how to attract, choosing bird feeders, planting to attract birds, & choosing better seeds & foods are exactly what I needed to know. Book size is compact enough for a small backpack if you are hiking locally. Listed are the main birds seen in North America. As I progress with my hobby to more serious birding, I will want a more inclusive book with a larger selection of birds and habitats. But for the beginner, I highly recommend this book. 5 stars for beginner.

I have been a prosecutor for over three decades now, more than half my life. I tell folks that when it comes to being a prosecutor, I've seen it all, done most. The author has too. And now he shares what he learned from those experiences with budding prosecutors. This isn't a traditional "how to" trial advocacy book; it's more of a "how-to-survive" book. Each chapter contains sage wisdom from years of experience. There was little that I didn't already know or had figured out on my own. I found myself nodding with approval throughout and wishing that I'd had this book when I first set foot in a courtroom in July 1984. Bobo speaks candidly on subjects such as dealing with judges, cops, victims, and reporters and prosecutor burn-out. He's a terrific, engaging writer. It's like sitting with a drink in a bar, listening to someone who's been there. In today's climate, where prosecutors are constantly under attack and often unfairly maligned, it's refreshing to read a work dedicated to upholding this noblest practice of law. This should be required reading for every new prosecutor.

When I first looked at the book I couldn't figure out why it was worth $30. Part way through, I get it. The book features true experiences and anecdotes, and I find myself nodding along with what the author's saying -- I can see myself in his descriptions of new prosecutors. I think it's a great book so far. It provides for thought and helps redirect your answer to the type of prosecutor you want to be.

I bought this for my daughter, but I read it and think it would be helpful. While reading it I kept coming upon things that I had already heard her talk about, so I know that his advice is useful to any new prosecutor. It was actually a fun read. Gave me some insight into the world of a prosecuting attorney. I hope she reads it, too.

I wish I had had this outstanding guide to help me learn in a few days what took me years to figure out.Decades of experience, wisdom, guidance, tactics, and tips are packed into a little book that could be read in a few hours.But don't read it that way. This little gem must be consumed slowly and savored. Whether you're a young prosecutor or an old one, be sure to open this book with a highlighter in your hand and a pen behind your ear. Then read, mark, and make notes. You will be better at your job after each chapter.If you're seasoned, make the baby lawyers read it. You owe it to the young to get them started right. If you're new at the job, share this book with your colleagues.What about you defense attorneys...do you need to read it? Absolutely. It has stuff for everyone. You'll see what I mean.

Every page is full of helpful advice. You can tell the author has a lot of experience, and he’s eager to pass it on.

I purchased this book as a casual vacation read. I've been a Prosecutor in one of the biggest jurisdictions in the country for 9 years and I was skeptical of the value this book would have for me. I loved it. While some was common sense & elementary I found this book helpful, smart & motivating. I came back from vacation ready to work. I've suggested this book to colleagues and I would recommend it to any Prosecutor no matter what your experience.

This book touched on all the questions I've had as a first year prosecutor. It was like sitting at a coffeehouse with a mentor who gives you blunt advice, real-world examples, and encouraging words to take with you to do good!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Stephen E. Lucas is Professor of Communication Arts and Evjue-Bascom Professor in the Humanities at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he has taught since 1972. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his master's and doctorate degrees from Penn State University. Professor Lucas has been recognized for his work as both a scholar and a teacher. His first book, Portents of Rebellion: Rhetoric and Revolution in Philadelphia, 1765-1776, received the Golden Anniversary Award of the National Communication Association in 1977 and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. His major articles include "The Schism in Rhetorical Scholarship" (1981), "The Renaissance of American Public Address: Text and Context in Rhetorical Criticism" (1988), "The Stylistic Artistry of the Declaration of Independence” (1990), and “The Rhetorical Ancestry of the Declaration of Independence” (1998), for which he received the Golden Anniversary Monograph Award of the National Communication Association. His most recent book is Words of a Century: The Top 100 American Speeches, 1900-1999 (2009). Professor Lucas has received a number of teaching awards, including the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching at the University of Wisconsin and the National Communication Association’s Donald Ecroyd Award for Outstanding Teaching in Higher Education. I am reading this book for my speech class. It is very easy to understand and the chapters are pretty short. It really helps your understand why public speaking is important and how to speak in front of people. It's very good at breaking down the steps on how to create a good speech and helps you understand the three types of speech and their purpose. This book is definitely helping me.

The seller sold me the instructor's version. If you plan on having it in class, don't buy from this seller! I saw the instructor's version available but did not buy it because you can't re-sell the instructor's version. They sent me the instructor's version anyway. Getting a degree is expensive enough without getting ripped off by dishonest seller. By the way, it is a violation of copywright laws to sell instructor's versions. So I'm stuck using this version and because I discovered it was the wrong version 15 days past the return date, the seller refuses to let me return it.

The book seems to be reasonably informative, but if you rent this title make sure your instructor isn't using Connect Lucas access features. Used titles may not have the access card and Rentals won't have it for sure (even though the title says with card). The card alone goes for $60-$80 (I got mine for $40 secondhand, but it's not guaranteed). You may only save $10 in the long run buying used (if you need the card) and in some cases you could pay more than the new copy with card.

This textbook is trash, but your class probably requires it. Several classmates did just fine with a bootleg pdf and our lecture notes. This textbook is so poorly written that I stopped doing any of the required reading, and I used the book strictly to look up vocabulary for my flash cards. I finished the class with an A.

I was very hesitant while purchasing this. At other places I would've paid probably $100 or even $200. THE CODE WORKED! I was so pleasantly surprised when it worked. I am very thankful. I rented a book for my speech class and did not realize I would need an Access code for Connect. So I panicked and did not want to pay so much. But I figured, this was only $20, it's worth a try. It definitely worked and I am still using it for this semester.I definitely recommend this to a student who is trying not to break the bank.

Got a used version, which is what I asked for. I don't think it came with the access code as such, which was fine for me anyway. No marks, only a bit scuffed on the cover and some dog-eared pages but nothing very distracting at all. All of the pages seemed to be present and I passed my class with an A with this book. I paid ~$20 for this previous edition as opposed to ~$120 for a new copy of the newer edition, and you really can't beat that.

My son needed a Connect Access card for one of his college courses and we found it on Amazon for more than half the price than the school was selling it for. My son is connected to the blackboard; the product works! Very satisfied

I just got the book for my communications class. there was nothing for me to like or dislike about because I only read for my class. but the price was really good for the book especially compared to our bookstore prices. and it came at the expected time.
