Después de concluir de una manera perfecta en el capítulo anterior al resumen, vuelve a explicar todo lo que ya había explicado durante el libro y el capítulo anterior, y pierde la velocidad con la que venía.

Naïveté led me to purchase this, but that is no reason to say this is a bad book. I was looking for more of a over-view of the more traditional aspects of the runes. I understood that there is very little out there in a 'official pre-christian' regard, but I didn't realize just how 'ceremonial magick' this course was. I had read the reviews that said that it was rather Golden Dawn-ish, and figured it had SOME aspects like that, but... The course is absolutely like the Golden Dawn/OTO/AA when it comes to the structure. I fully understand that there is nearly no information (as noted before) of pre-christian worship/etc, and that 'holes need to be filled', but this is a bit more 'high magic' than I would have wanted.None of the above means that it is a BAD book. It just seems to have been presented in a way that led me to believe that it was a different book than it was. I'm sure that there are plenty of people that will find this to be a great guide. And, I also agree that this wouldn't be the best first book on runes (for reasons other than the above), as the 'required reading' for the first part is rather lengthy. If one wanted to pursue this rigorous path (which it is shown to be when you read the book), you'll probably want to get this, yet be prepared to immediately buy several more books before even beginning things.Hope this helps someone who is looking into getting this!!!

I own a previous edition of this book as a member of the Rune Gild. Right away, the new edition is noticeably more durable. I owned a previous edition of this book, and there are several huge improvements in this new edition. The text has been re-formatted, making it easier to read. Existing diagrams have been cleaned up or enlarged, and there are several new diagrams and photos. All of the revisions contribute to making this Runic work book much easier to use. Another thing is that the paper and covers are more durable than the previous edition - which is very helpful as it is the type of book that you will be re-reading and flipping through many times.The book itself is spectacular. I remember feeling very impressed by it and excited when I first read it. It is essentially a book of exercises for those who would dare to seek the primal Mysteries themselves, within the Germanic tradition. The approach is one that encourages individual experience and developing power within yourself - It is in many ways the dynamic opposite of dogmatic modern religions that demand belief and faith, but don't encourage experimentation. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Runes, the Rune Gild, or Germanic mysticism and magic in general.

The Nine Doors of Midgard is a curriculum for serious Rune Seekers. It is the foundation that Rune Gilders must lay to truly advance in esoteric transformation. It is Epic, after all these years, for the Rune Gild to offer the public an updated version for our current times. Anyone can follow the curriculum for their own personal advancement. Powerful are the ones that do.I, as well as a couple of my comrades (those of us that have the older edition), appreciate that the new edition is a modern improvement from the older edition.I, perhaps unlike my comrades, am partial to the older version of the Nine Doors of Midgard. The reading list of course....is outdated. Any person pursuing that curriculum would be well advised to continue to seek the reading list of later editions. :)

Scrolling is not an option, which makes this book hard to read, as there is a lot of information to skip if you’ve read Futhark and are already disciplined with basic meditation.Some of the verbiage is super hammy, and I’m personally not a fan of being given specific time lines for learning something (it just creates a mental block, which defeats the purpose anyway). But some people may enjoy spending a whole year learning just the name and meaning of each rune before advancing to the next step.The lack of being able to scroll is what killed this book for me, which sucks, because there’s a ton of good information in it. I think the kindle version should be priced at $5 at most. Add the scroll feature and this book bumps up a star.

The photographs are well done and really help you understand how to shape the pasta. The author clearly explains the steps to make great dough and then shape it. We were easily able to make the milk, tomato, and leafy green (we used frozen spinach) dough. My daughters skipped to the advanced techniques of "painting pasta with pasta" and we ended up with some interesting, yet tasty designs. I have been making pasta off and on for a few years now and I was amazed at how helpful the book was. I learned many techniques that have improved my pasta making (and explain some of my previous failures) and because of the rainbow colors - everyone is so excited to participate, clean up, and eat pasta!

It's been a long time since I read a nonfiction book this captivating. The author's personality really shines through and draws you deeper into the beautiful world of pasta. I have been waiting for this book for months and it has met and surpassed my expectations! Being somewhat of a novice pasta maker myself... Linda's recipes are easy to follow and she gives so much practical advice mixed with a great sense of humor!! I have read every page and several sections repeatedly!! My first recipe was Beet-Blueberry pasta made into squash ravioli with brown butter sage sauce for a Halloween season treat. My family raved about it for days! I can't wait to share more recipes with my extended family and try more at home. As an Italian and an art teacher...this book bridges my two passions of art and cooking!!! Vice Admiral James Stockdale, a senior research fellow at the Hoover Institution, served in the navy from 1947 to 1979, beginning as a test pilot and instructor at Patuxent River, Maryland, and spending two years as a graduate student at Stanford University. He became a fighter pilot and was shot down on his second combat tour over North Vietnam, becoming a prisoner of war for eight years, four in solitary confinement. The highest-ranking naval officer held during the Vietnam War, he was tortured fifteen times and put in leg irons for two years. His books include Thoughts of a Philosophical Fighter Pilot (1995, Hoover Institution Press) and In Love and War (second revised and updated edition, 1990, U.S. Naval Institute Press), coauthored with his wife, Sybil. In early 1987, a dramatic presentation of In Love and War was viewed by more than 45 million viewers on NBC television.

Thoughts of a Philosophical Fighter Pilot offers strength and resilience when (not if) we too are tried in the fire and must confront feelings that threaten to distroy us.

The viewpoint and descriptions of what it takes to walk thru the fire, survive and win against 7/8years of daily torture, oppression, interrogation, isolation. Ultimately it came down to holding out for the guys you're in with so you can look them in the face...not compromising one's principals and the prisons code. A man may scream or do some things he may not hope to, but then there are things a man of principal can hold out and never be forced to do even wiith the threat of death or worse. There are things one can control - ones code, and interpretation and things one cannot. The true stoics focus on the internal desires vs external wants. My biggest take away was never compromise your principals for any amount of luxury or relief as that is what kills mens souls.

I do not waste my time reviewing marginal books. I thought long and hard before writing this review. It is presumptuous to comment on the life and thoughts of this man. But it is also compelling to encourage its readership by the broadest possible audience....especially our young people. It is especially relevant today, circa early 2008, as America decides on a President.This is perhaps the most intellectually and emotionally charged book I have read. And yet Admiral Stockdale was a quiet, humble man. As previous reviewers have commented, there is a wealth of material: ethics, history, drama...but I focus on the introspection he demands of America, especially in choosing leaders that send our young men and women into harms was...and, at times, into 7 and-a-half years of constant torture.Do not presume to think you know the substance of this book. I assure you, you will be proven wrong. The book is brutal. Yes, it does describe the torture and underground resistance - the ordeal and triumph American POWs. And that is more than useful for several generations of Americans who came to maturity when we, as a Nation, preferred to ignore a government's duplicity and, in many instances, stupidity in the conduct of war and national affairs.The book is critical of the government. What? A Vice Admiral and holder of the Medal of Honor being critical of the government? Damn right! So pay attention. This is not a criticism based on emotion or a "why didn't you help me" cry. It's a demand...nothing less...that elected officials exhibit character. Character is unambiguous. You want an example...it is simple: It is not what you believe in. It is how you act.On page 30, Stockdale recounts a conversation as I quote: "I think that in an important way, the television news industry is doing the whole country a continuing disservice. We constantly reinforce a bad idea that we helped invent - the idea that the key to being a good citizen, a discerning voter, is to know where all the candidates stand on all the issues. The issues are given center stage and the politician is cast as their suitor. We have made the expression `so much for philosophy, lets get down to issues' a maxim of conventional wisdom. And at news time every evening, all networks project scenes of harassed men and women being nailed down by stubborn interviewers who insist on quick answers on where their victims stand on gun control, abortion, and so on......"...what's important is not the person's current views on transient issues, but his character."And this, from Lester Crystal, then the President of NBC News!Character. How does a man or woman of character act? They do not quibble. They do not lie. They do not debate "What 'is' is?"On many levels, Stockdale defines the term.

This book is essentially a collection of speeches Admiral Stockdale gave during the 80s and 90s. These speeches merely scratch the surface of a man whose iron will and leadership ability in the face of seemingly impossible circumstances have set the bar high. He reveals how a chance encounter with a professor in the philosophy depart at Stanford helped set the direction for the rest of his life. Philosophy notwithstanding, Stockdale's determination and absolute certainty that he knew what to do and why it had to be done reveal a force of will seldom seen among those who assume leadership roles today.This book is an excellent introduction to the life of a man who defined leadership not with words, but with deeds. Certainly for myself, I have internally grown, and find much to appreciate in the Stoic philosophy that Stockdale advocates.

The version we got is the 1995 edition and is good for a backup chart ... but doesn't reflect the dozens of chart updates made since waters around Vieques were opened to cruisers and sailors. We're somewhat disappointed.

Excellent It bailed us out when we ran out of light before getting into the anchorage at Philipsburg and got us into several beaches that were completely deserted.A bit dated is spots (it is 7 years old) For example, Saba has installed a number of excellent mooring on the south and west sides on the island, making it much easier to get either by the traditional landing or LLadder Landing on the West side. There is a road down to that now (no more 1000 steps to climb). However it was out when we were there (4-1-00)

We've sailed and chartered in the USVI and BVI numerous times and ALWAYS take this guide with us. From little known anchorages (Mermaids Chair on St. Thomas) to the most frequented (Great Harbor on Yost Van Dyke)this guide is without equal.

I imagined myself in a smokey bowling alley, hearing these great, mostly unknown men tell their "back in the day" stories. I'm not a bowler, but the pages of the book have me planning my next outing to the lanes!

I am of Brooklyn: body, soul and bone marrow. For that reason I was anxious to read Gianmarc's book not merely as a bowling book, but as a picture of a time and place that I cannot return to. The book doesn't disappoint with its characters, which some people may find fictiionalized, but are not. It is colorful when describing the characters on the corners, whether they are singing in harmony or hustling, or both. But in additiion to the comedy of the book, Gianmarc's poets soul shines through as when he talks of Kenny Barber who, after sharing his memories with Giarmarc, committed suicide. I highly recommend this book. If you want to know about bowling's history: read this book. If you want to go back to a time and place that exists in your heart and mind: read this book. If you just want a good time with a book: read this book.

A friend of mine gave me this book to read. He actually gave it to me at the Bowling Center. A few days later I started looking for it and couldn't remember bringing it home. I went to the Bowling Center to see if anyone had turned it in. No luck! The only thing I could remember was what I thought the cover looked like. I went on Amazon and sure enough it was available. I did tell my friend that I had lost his book. Really felt bad about it since he's son gave it to him. A few day later, I received the replacement book from Amazon. However, before I could give him the replacement book, I saw a black bag leaning against the wall in my computer room. Sure enough, his book was inside. My friend now has his book back and I received a bonus one of my own from the Amazon folks. Everything worked out great!

I bought the book for my mother for her birthday because she loved bowling so much in the 70s and 80s that we watched it on Saturday afternoon TV. It never occurred to me that my father, with his love of True Crime, would be interested in the book, too. As soon as my mother opened it, my father grabbed it and started reading random passages aloud to the family at the dining room table -- interrupting with his own "neighborhood" stories from his youth in Brooklyn and Queens, saying things like "That's what these guys used to do! They used to . . . " and giving us a history lesson of crime in the 70s and 80s. The next morning my mother told me that reading just the first chapter was like taking a walk down memory lane for her; she's excited to read the rest. I hope they fight over it and then share it with the rest of the family.

Quite simply, this is the best "bowling book" ever written. But it is much more than that. Pin Action captures a slice of American life from a bygone era populated by hustlers, gamblers, athletes, wanna-be athletes and countless other colorful characters. One can imagine similar individuals in pool halls or on golf courses, but in this case bowling alleys provided the backdrop for Gianmarc Manzione's masterful storytelling. The book is brimming with detail and shading that makes it virtually impossible to put down. If you love bowling, you must read this book. If you are a sports fan, you will love this book. If you are a student of the human condition, you will be amazed by how both strengths and foibles play out on shiny wooden lanes, housed in dens of inequity that have faded to foggy but fascinating memories — all brought to life on the pages of Pin Action.

Anyone who is addicted to bowling, as I am will enjoy this book. It begins in the early sixties, and tells of the young kids, who would bowl all night, if they could hustle another bowler. It talks of the oil on the lanes, the methods that the bowlers went to cause the ball to hook, because this was before weight blocks were added to balls. The subtle methods they used to get inside their opponents head before the match started. A very enjoyable read.

The book chronicles an era and a hustler. This is a subject not often treated. The author brings it to life awfully well. Anyone who as a kidhung around a bowling alley will recognize some of the characters and the atmosphere of the time. I am not much of a bowler but I enjoyedthe slice of life and the Damyonesque characters of the book. Nice work.

Loved this book. Took me way back to sitting in the smokey balcony watching my dad bowl in this 8 lane center (bowling alley). I was ten years old and myself and the waitress behind the little drink counter and I the only women in the place! I have bowled for over 65 years and continue to love it.
