From School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 1—A monster has invaded this book! He looks innocent enough, and yet he is already tearing it apart. That is where readers come in. The goal is to dislodge the little critter by following the instructions and shaking the book, tickling the monster's feet, blowing on him, tilting the pages, and spinning the book around. The monster rolls and reels around each spread in an adorable "dance," before disappearing altogether. Or at least he would have, if not for the giggle-worthy twist at the end. All the instructions are simple enough for a toddler to participate in, however, some pages ask readers to perform an action "and turn the page." Young readers can also depend on visual cues for clarity, such as the font used for action words, and a single motion line that reveals the results of the actions. The monster, with his blue fur and striped T-shirt, is always easy to spot against the grainy white, yellow, and red backgrounds, which mimic the look of book paper. VERDICT A fun interactive book, great for a bedtime read with toddlers.—Rachel Forbes, Oakville Public Library, Ont.

Review
Excerpt:"The monster's entirely cute appearance and clear emotional reactions to his treatment add to the interactive aspect, and some young readers might even resist the instructions to avoid hurting their new pal. Children will be brought along on the monster's journey, going from excited, noisy, and wiggly to calm and steady (one can hope). Playful, engaging, and full of opportunities for empathy—a raucous storytime hit. (Picture book. 2-7) —Kirkus Reviews

I bought this book for my 4 yr old grand-daughter just over 4 months ago, but was concerned it may not be appropriate for her 1 yr old sister. The 4 yr old enjoyed it and then moved on to other books. However, it has remained a FAVORITE for her 15 month old sister who is now almost 20 months old and does all the appropriate actions herself: shaking, tilting, spinning the book; blowing, tickling, petting the monster and making the noises. She loves it and it has not left the must read pile in 5 months. When an adult decides they've read enough in one sitting (5-6 times), she'll just "read" it herself.
My 2 year old is obcessed with this book! He loves interacting with it. He wants mommy to read “Monster†every night haha. It’s a simple book, like all children’s books should be. Fun interaction with basic words that are used repeatedly to help learn the word. My son has no issue with “the monster in your room†portion BECAUSE I don’t make a big deal out of it. He just smiles and goes “oh no monster! Where you go?!†Then he giggles and says he’s hiding. Then we call him back and “peekaboo! There he is! He came back!â€. You also know your kid best so filter what you need and make something up as you go if you need to. Bright simple illustrations. Happy this was one of our first prime kids books subscription box items.
My kiddo is scared of monsters, always talks about them being in the house so I got this for her as a birthday present and she LOVES this book.A. its a cute monsterB. its something they can get involves it. 'tickle the monster, blow on him, talk to him'The first time we read this book, we read it 3 times in a row. Its such a cute book!
My four year old loves this book (as does my 7 year old)! They love the interaction while reading rather than just being read to. I don't know that I appreciate the yelling right before bed time but it's so much fun!I also appreciate making monsters cute creatures, not something to fear.
Love this book. After checking it out at the library time after time I finally just bought it. The kids love it
This book is delightful. My 2 1/2 year-old son thinks it is both hilarious and at times a little scary but it gives him enough control that he can find resolve and enjoy the ending of the book. At first I was a little concerned that he would be scared that the monster is “in his room†for part of the book but like I said, it has a pleasant ending and he asks to read it every night.
Cute book. My son likes it. The only reason I give it 4 stars is that it seems like a rip-off from a couple other books my son has. This monster look eerily like another little yellow monster that eats his way through books and the "story line" is very similar to a dot book that he has. But it's fun and my son enjoys it.
My grandchildren and I love this book. I read it just today to the 3-year old. It is interactive and fun. I like it that the cute little monster snuggles up and goes to sleep at the end of the story. That makes it the perfect bedtime story.
